I love to read, and I know that I am not the only one. If you’re looking for a great gift for someone who also loves to read then I can highly recommend A Game Of Thrones. This is especially true if they are a fan of the fantasy genre as A Game Of Thrones is truly an epic fantasy series. I have not read the like since reading the Lord Of The Rings.
A Game Of Thrones Review
I was fortunate enough to be given A Song Of Ice And Fire, a seven volume series of A Game Of Thrones. So far I’ve read four of the seven books and I can honestly say that I love it. A Song Of Ice And Fire includes the following volumes.
1 Game of Thrones
2 A Clash of Kings
3 A Storm of Swords 1: Steel And Snow
4 A Storm Of Sword 2: Blood And Gold
5 A Feast for Crows
6 A Dance with Dragons 1: Dream And Dust
7 A Dance with Dragons 2: After The Feast
Most people these days love a bit of Sex Drugs and Rock’n Roll but unfortunately A Game Of Thrones takes place before drugs and rock’n roll, although it does have a lot of bards singing and drunkenness. That aside it does have a lot of sex and violence throughout the volumes. It also has a lot of intrigue which has kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next .
While most books have descriptive chapters George R.R. Martin has decided to use the main character as the chapter’s heading. So when the chapter is about Daenerys Targaryen it’s simply titled Daenerys, and when you’re reading it you are virtually seeing it through her eyes.
The only fault that I could find in A Game Of Thrones is that it the amount of characters in the series. There has been many a time when I’ve had to flick back through the pages in order to find out who exactly is being referred too. Perhaps this would be a lot easier if I had the Kindle Edition of a Game Of Thrones which would be a lot easier than having to carry the 5 book series around.
What The Song Of Ice And Fire Is About
Like I said at the beginning of the post I’m half way through the series but so far I can tell you it’s set in the contents of Westeros and Essos. You can liken the characters to the knights we used to have all those years ago. There are a lot of tournaments, chivalry, love, betrayals, revelry, wanton lust, brutality and the list goes on.
Once you get into it you realise that many of the characters are not satisfied with their lot and are out to improve it. This leads to a dynastic war where several families fight for the control of Westeros. Whilst reading it I’ve seen the birth of Dragons and the dragon mother herself. I’ve met the Others and the walking dead! I’ve seen the growing of magic which becomes more prevalent once the dragons are born
What I love about A Game Of Thrones is that you never know what is around the corner. With a lot of books I’ve read you can almost guess what the plot is about. Not so with A Game Of Thrones. There have been times when I’m sure I’ve worked out who the hero of A Game of Thrones is only to find he gets killed off.
Once my kids worked out how much I loved my birthday present, they bought the first edition of Game of Thrones Disc Set.
