It doesn’t matter what the occasion, whether it’s a birthday, christening a special occasion or just something to say I love you. Something else to consider is I’m using a blogging platform which means you’ll be able to interact not just with myself but with the whole gift giving community. But enough of the waffling, lets get to those important tips on how to buy the perfect gift.
Tips On How To Buy The Perfect Gift
Shop For Them And Not For Yourself: The biggest mistake people make when buying gifts is they tend to choose something that they personally like with the assumption that the person they’re buying the gift for will like it as well. While you may hit it lucky on the rare occasion you’ll usually strike out using this technique. If you’re prone to this type of gift giving read the next tip very carefully.
Be a Gift Detective: Detectives are all about finding stuff out and they usually do it on the sly which means you never know what they’re about. Being a detective is really pretty easy too, it just means you have to be attentive to the person you’re buying the perfect gift for. I know this may be a little hard for us guys but honestly fellas, if we paid a bit more attention to the other half not only would we have more luck at buying something they will appreciate we’d probably wouldn’t be sleeping on the couch so often. The secret to knowing how to buy the perfect is you have to be a good listener and be able to make mental notes of what they say because it can lead you to that perfect gift idea. Sometimes you may have to quiz them a little to get a better idea of exactly what they want but then that’s what being a detective is all about.
Go Shopping With Them: Yeah, I know going shopping sucks for a lot of guys but if you’re going to be a gift detective you’re going to have to suck it up. Once you’re out shopping pay attention to what they’re looking at and what they say. Little nuggets like, “Man, I’d love one of those” or “What do you think of those….” are dead give aways.
Are They A Collector?: Say for example you know they collect crystal, there is nothing better than getting them some Swarovski Chrystal. But it doesn’t have to be crystal, as long as you know what it is they collect you got a really good shot at buying them a gift they’re going to appreciate.
Do they Have A Hobby? Hobbyists should be relatively easy to buy for. Once you start them talking about their hobby their bound to drop heaps of great gift ideas that you can use.
Do Not Regift: This is a bit no no. If you didn’t like it then they’re probably not going to like it either.
Don’t Be Generic: By this I mean you should put some thought into whatever gift you buy. Rather than just buying something off the shelf try and match it to their personality. If you get this right they’re going to love and treasure it for sure.
Do They Need It? Buying someone an expensive set of headphones for their iPhone when you know they don’t listen to music all that much is probably a waste of money. Again, be a good gift detective and work out what they need.
Only Buy Quality Gifts: This does not necessarily mean expensive either. By quality I mean you don’t want to get them something that falls apart after the first use. One of the reasons I will always try to use Gifts from Amazon is so that you guys can read the reviews to see what others have thought about it.
As A Last Resort ASK: What can I say, when all else fails just bite the bullet and ask them what they would like.
One thing to keep in mind when buying your gift online is not to leave it to the last moment because if you do chances are you won’t get it in time and you only have yourself to blame. Even if the site promises delivery in a week I’d allow for two. Better to be safe than sorry I always say.
